Research
We are pleased to be actively involved in research activities. Research is important as it is the only way that new advances in medicine can emerge to better care for everyone. We work closely with the Primary Care Research Network, which is part of the NHS National Institute for Health Research (NHR) and the UK clinical Research Network (UKCRN), which are both Governmental bodies. All the research the practice is involved with has been approved by the NHS.
The practice has also been accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) as being Research Ready. From time to time we will put up posters in the waiting room and have information on the practice website about the research projects we are involved in. The doctors may also ask you if you would like to be involved in a study that the practice is conducting. All participation will be with your full knowledge and only after your full informed consent has been given.
If you have any concerns please ask to speak to the Practice Manager or to Dr B Sinha, who is the practice lead for research.
Garfield
This is a new study we are just commencing at the practice. Its aim is to determine in real-life practice the behaviour of newly-diagnosed patients with Atrial Fibrillation and at least one additional risk factor for stroke. It is an observational study which means that routine clinical practice is observed and no additional treatment is given to you as part of this study. Any treatment given follows the normal routine and is decided by the treating doctor.
Eligibility
- Patients aged 18 years and over
- New diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation, with at least one additional risk factor for stroke
Duration
It is anticipated that the total duration will be 6 years, allowing four years for recruitment and 2 years of follow up for the patient.
Taking part
The practice will write to patients who are eligible to take part in the study, giving them details of the study and a consent form. P lease take the time to read over the information sent to you and discuss it with your family. Only patients who want to be involved in the study and have given written consent will be included.
